The SEACHANGE™ Shark Shield™ Freedom 2 GPSS01-0001 has been designed for the the following users:

  • Surfers
  • Body Boarders
  • Divers
  • Snorkelers
  • Swimmers
  • The unit is designed to be worn on the lower leg using the special neoprene pouch provided. The pouch is fitted with two velcro straps which ensures secure anchoring to the leg.

The Shark Shield™ incorporates two electrodes, which project the field from the unit and create an elliptical field that surrounds the user. Both electrodes must be immersed in the water, whilst the unit is switched on, in order to give protection to the wearer.

In the GPSS01 unit both electrodes are encased in the antenna, which trails out from the user's ankle. This configuration does not require the use of a wetsuit, as it is far enough away from the user's body to ensure no skin stimulation occurs.

For surfers, the GPSS01 version only requires the simple addition of an elastomer leash to be fitted to the antenna and then the surfboard before use.

To test the unit is operating prior to use, switch the unit on and a green pulsing LED should appear in the status indicator window showing that the electronics are functioning. The unit should then be switched off until the user enters the water.

With the unit in place, the user should enter the water and then activate the switch to set the unit running. It is recommended that the unit remain on for the duration of the users time in the water. When fully charged prior to use, the battery of the GPSS01 unit will last for 2 hours.

If purchasing the GPSS01 for swimming, snorkeling or body boarding, it is highly recommended that fins be worn. Fins dramatically increase leg thrust, slow down leg movements to a much more controlled rate and therefore allow the antenna to remain fully extended while in the water. Without fins, many swimmers kick vigorously and this thrashing movement tends to curl up the antenna and reduce the protective field.
