Greg Webber describes the 2008 model of the Afterburner:
"The 08 Afterburner maintains the overall theme that has made this design synonymous with the concept of the all rounder.
The new addition of the nose to tail double concave has only extended the speed of the board without losing an ounce of the flow, freedom and range of use which this board has always had. In fact, after many years of using the deep double concave out through the tail of the Afterburner, it was this very feature which led me to the deep double.
I've slightly increased nose and centre width, so that the new Afterburner is a touch more fish-like, making it about halfway between a short board and a true fish."
SLX = Super Lightweight Epoxy Construction
Instead of using traditional polyurethane blanks, fibreglass and polyester resin, the SLX models are constructed with a high density EPS (Expanded Poly Styrene) that is especially blown to maximise strength but minimise weight.
The board is then glassed using high grade fibreglass, and even higher grade epoxy resin. These materials make for a strong outer shell, whilst allowing the board to maintain natural flex patterns similar to a traditionally constructed surfboard.
