Bunbury is located 170 km south of Perth and is Western Australia's second largest city. Australind is a small community just north of Bunbury established along the edge of an estuary system which provides fantastic sheltered waters for sailors of all abilities, summer and winter. Ridley's Place (BP Service Station), about halfway up the estuary, is the site for the annual South West Windsurfing Club Classic. The mini marathon features a 200 m run/swim along the channel sand bar from the start line to where the boards are lined up for the competitors, and then its first home after navigating the course. Bunbury offers good sailing in the protected waters off the sailing club, and experiences fresh sea breezes most afternoons in summer. It is not surprising to see a few dolphins enjoying the waters right underneath your board as well -a unique experience.
